On March 5, 2025, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia, Roland Beridze, held an official meeting in Cape Town, the parliamentary capital of the Republic of South Africa, with the Speaker of the National Assembly of South Africa, Mrs. Angela Thokozile Didiza.
During the meeting, the parties emphasized the friendly relations between South Africa and Georgia, which are based on fundamental principles of international law, such as mutual respect for the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of states. The Ambassador and the Speaker of the National Assembly discussed the prospects of deepening political ties between the two countries, with special attention given to the exchange of high-level visits between respective legislative bodies and the establishment of parliamentary friendship groups.
During the discussion, the Georgian Ambassador provided the Speaker of the National Assembly with detailed information on Georgia's highly successful reforms, particularly regarding the establishment of Public Service Halls and the providing public services to citizens. Ambassador confirmed Georgia's readiness to share its experience, should the South African side express interest. In the context of the challenges in the region, emphasis was placed on the steps taken by the Georgian government to ensure peaceful development and economic prosperity in the country. Additionally, Georgia’s central role in international transit corridors and global infrastructure projects was highlighted.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Georgian Ambassador, on behalf of the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, extended an official invitation to the Speaker of the National Assembly of South Africa to visit Georgia. In response, the Speaker expressed readiness to host a parliamentary delegation from Georgia in South Africa.
