Information on the annual reception in honor of Georgians in South Africa

 

On 25 November 2017, the Embassy of Georgia in the Republic of South Africa hosted Georgian citizens residing in South Africa and in the African countries that are under diplomatic coverage of the Embassy. Ambassador of Zambia H.E. Mr. Emanuel Mwamba and his spouse, Charge d’Affaire of Azerbaijan Mr. Azad Nagyiev and his spouse as well as the friends of Georgia in Pretoria were invited as guests of honor to this event.

H.E. Mr. Beka Dvali, Ambassador of Georgia in South Africa greeted the guests. In his remarks, Ambassador recalled recent tragic fire in Batumi, Georgia resulting in the loss of human lives and paid respects to the victims. Ambassador Dvali also paid respects to the member of Georgian Special Forces, killed during recent preventive anti-terrorist operation, successfully undertaken by Georgian law-enforcement.

In his interaction with compatriots, Georgian Ambassador reflected on Georgia’s achievements of recent year and spoke about current priorities in the Nation’s foreign and domestic policies.

The Embassy of Georgia offered opportunity to all those present at the event to watch brand new Georgian documentary “The Song” directed by Mr. Ramaz Bluashvili. The film tells the story of how Georgian polyphonic folk song Chakrulo was selected by NASA and included in the “Golden Record” on spacecraft Voyager, launched into space back in 1977. The Voyager has already travels beyond Milky Way Galaxy, carrying with it the Golden Record, including Georgian Folk Song Chakrulo, to represent the diversity and sophistication of human civilization.

While introducing the documentary, Ambassador Dvali noted that the screening of “The Song” in Pretoria was actually the first ever premier of this film outside Georgia. On behalf of the attending Georgians and the friends of Georgia, Ambassador sent vote of thanks to the film director Mr. Ramaz Bluashvili.

During the reception that followed, the Embassy of Georgia treated the attending compatriots and other guests to Georgian food and drinks.
