In order to commemorate the victims of fire that took place on 25 November 2017 at Georgia’s seaside city of Batumi “Leogrand Hotel”, the Prime Minister of Georgia H.E. Mr. Giorgi Kvirikashvili and the Government of declared 27 November 2017 as the Day of Mourning in Georgia.

On 25 November 2017, the Embassy of Georgia in the Republic of South Africa hosted Georgian citizens residing in South Africa and in the African countries that are under diplomatic coverage of the Embassy. Ambassador of Zambia H.E. Mr. Emanuel Mwamba and his spouse, Charge d’Affaire of Azerbaijan Mr. Azad Nagyiev and his spouse as well as the friends of Georgia in Pretoria were invited as guests of honor to this event.

During 18-23 November 2017, the Embassy of Georgia in the Republic of South Africa organized a fact-finding visit of another South African business-delegation to Georgia. The delegation was composed of Mr. Marius Heyns, the Chairman of South Africa-Georgia Chamber of Commerce (SAGCC) as well as Mr. Izak van Niekerk and Mr. Cornel Burger, the Executives of “Raubex” – one of the leading, Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE)-listed, South African construction companies, which also is the member of SAGCC.

During 11-29 September 2017, a group of Georgian forensic experts, archeologists and anthropologists from Tbilisi State University and “Levan Samkharauli National Forensics Bureau” consisting of Tinatin Niniashvili, Elguja Latchkebiani, Meri Gonashvili, Alexander Sturua, Nino Tavartkiladze and Sopio Vekua visited South Africa’s administrative capital Pretoria.

On 27 September 2017, H.E. Mr. Beka Dvali, Ambassador of Georgia held a meeting with Professor Crain Soudien, CEO of Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) and with Dr. Michael Cosser, Executive Director:  Democracy, Governance and Service Delivery. Mr. Teimuraz Kereselidze, Counsellor of the Embassy of Georgia also participated in the discussion.

During 18-23 September 2017, Georgian Embassy in Pretoria, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and South Africa-Georgia Chamber of Commerce facilitated the visit of South African delegation to Georgia. The delegation was composed of high-level officials from Cape Winelands District Municipality, South African Embassy in Ukraine (covering Georgia) and South African entrepreneurs. The objectives of the visit were to understand better Georgia business climate as well as to identify concrete avenues and modes of cooperation between Cape Winelands District and Kakheti, based on the Memorandum of cooperation entered into between the two regions back in July 2017.

On 10 September 2017, popular South African Radio Station “Classic FM” program “People of Note” (http://www.classicfm.co.za/on-air-1/people-of-note/copy67_of_people-of-note-this-sunday-6-march-2016) featured H.E. Mr. Beka Dvali, Ambassador of Georgia in the Republic of South Africa. Ambassador was interviewed by Mr. Richard Cock, a renowned South African music expert, musician, conductor and journalist.

Today, on 24 August 2017, U18 Rugby 7s Georgian team arrived in Cape Town for 10 days' camp, in preparation of this year's Rugby Sevens U18 European Cup. They are hosted by Western Cape Rugby Academy.

On 24 August 2017, the Embassy of Georgia in the Republic of South Africa hosted regular meeting of South Africa-Georgia Chamber of Commerce (SAGCC) Management Committee. The meeting was followed by welcome reception hosted by H.E. Mr. Beka Dvali, Ambassador of Georgia in honor of new members of SAGCC.
