Today, on 27 September 2021, National Flag of Georgia flies half-staff in Pretoria, at the Embassy of Georgia in the Republic of South Africa, as well as at all administrative buildings of Georgia including Georgia’s diplomatic representations abroad.
28 years ago, on 27 September 1993, backed by the Russian Federation and with illegal participation of the armed forces of the Russian Federation, criminal gangs occupied Georgian city Sokhumi in one of Georgia’s ancient regions and inalienable parts - Abkhazia. Russian puppets in Abkhazia, Georgia carried out ethnic cleansing, expelling from their ancestral homes hundreds of thousands and killing thousands of peaceful Georgians.
Today, Georgia mourns and commemorates all the compatriots – the victims of the above events.
